The Minnesota DNR is requesting that hunters and other recreationists spending time outdoors this fall to report the locations of occupied bear dens they encounter in and around the Chippewa National Forest, north of Grand Rapids. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the tipping of the roses last Tuesday.  A second volunteer session was scheduled for tomorrow, however the wet weather has changed those plans with the City of Duluth.

We wait for it every Autumn, the changing colors of our leaves to brilliant reds, deep oranges and bright yellows.   Locals know that the change has been delayed a bit by our continued summer-like temps, but with the cooler nights predicted this week, we are nearing the peak of perfection.

With Bear hunting season underway, the Department of Natural Resources asks hunters participating in Minnesota’s bear season to avoid shooting radio-collared research bears. The animals are marked with colorful ear tags.

Here's another edition of my vacation series in Brimson.  It was a beautiful day and we had decided to go kayaking.  Our plan was an hour tour down the Little Cloquet River.  We had parked one truck at a bridge and another at the Pequaywan Inn.  What transpired that day was exhausting and had us thinking we may have to spend the night on the river.

June 6 is National Trails Day and the City of Duluth has many ways for you to participate!  Why shouldn't we celebrate our local trails, we're known for them.  Whether it's running, biking or hiking our trails are award-winning and growing more and more popular.  We have over 180 miles of trails to explore, get out and enjoy!

It's that time of the year when bears are out of hibernation and there isn't a lot of food for them yet out in the woods.  Until they get the food they want in their natural habitat, they will wander and could very well end up in a tree at Duluth's City Hall or in your yard.

We finally got some time to go fishing this weekend, and my wife caught a huge bass.  I told her it was the second biggest bass I've ever seen caught, next to the one I caught last summer.   Now we are comparing photos and trying to see which is bigger!

The breeding season of a turkey vulture starts in March and continues into June. One local turkey vulture decided our garage looked alluring and ended up injuring itself to the point it couldn't fly.  We decided to get him help from a local wildlife rehab center.  Watch the hilarious and daring capture and transport here.

I had a wonderful Mother's Day, not only am I going to be attending the Def Leppard and Foreigner concert but I also received a very inspirational gift from my daughter Kylee.  Have you ever heard of a lokai?

I'm not kidding!  She was over for Mother's Day and started to tell us of a crazy robin that is stalking her.  I immediately thought about when birds eat berries and get drunk, but we're too early in the season for that.  Wait till you read this, THEN, tell me what you make of it!

I like Justin Moore songs, I like Louis Armstrong, but I NEVER thought I'd hear Justin cover one of Louis' songs!  I think it would be an honor to be asked to cover one of Louis' songs, but Justin had even more at stake this time.
