Why Do The Leaves Of Our Trees Change Color In The Fall?

I was just talking to a friend about the fact that it seems like we haven't had the brilliant fall colored leaves that we're use to.  Some areas have them, but some places that I've enjoyed in previous years still haven't made the change.  I thought it was weird and wondered why.  I also realized (and I may have learned this in school YEARS ago), but I  don't remember why the leaves actually change colors, so I did a little research.

Cougar Sightings on The Rise in Northern Wisconsin

This time of year brings a unique opportunity to Northlanders to see what exactly is out in those great woods of ours.  Hunters have their trail cameras set up to spot game that could be in the area, but sometimes they spot more than they bargained for.  For example, there have been 2 cougars (mountain lions) spotted in Northern Wisconsin recently.

Mulch Leaves With Your Mower, And Toss the Rake [VIDEO]

We have a lot of trees in our yard, and every fall it amounts to about 35-40 bags of leaves.   That's a lot of leaves to get rid of.  It usually involves me loading them in my truck and trailer and bringing them to the dump.  It's a lot of crappy work.  But this year, I'm trying something new.  I'm going to just mulch the crap out of them.

Volunteers Needed to Combat Buckthorn & Japanese Knotweed In Our Local Parks

I didn't even KNOW what Buckthorn  or Japanese Knotweed was, let alone know they were dangerous.  I thought buckthorn looked pretty until I began to read that they can choke out our native plants and make our wildlife ill.  The City of Duluth is looking for volunteers to help remove a couple different species of invasive plants from our parks in the upcoming weeks.  Can you help with this important task?

Sneaky Bow-Legged Racoon Thief Will Have You Laughing And Sharing

I saw this video shared on Facebook and it made me giggle.  I watched it again and giggled again and again.  Animals crack me up, they are literally human!  In their actions and emotions.  They show happiness with a tail-wag and remorse or embarrassment by hiding under the kitchen table when you're mad or like this racoon, they know they're being sneaky and look around to make sure no one is watching.

There could be new fishing regulations put in place, but before that happens, your input is requested.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public input on experimental walleye regulations being considered for Saganaga, Sea Gull, and Gull lakes, and the Sea Gull River.
