Will Ice Be Off Lakes By Fishing Opener?

For the first time that I can remember, we are in actual danger of not having open lakes for fishing opener.  No one can say for sure, but we are definitely cutting it close if they do thaw out.  Local reports in the Northland have ice thickness anywhere from 2-3 feet.  That would be comparable to usually mid February thickness.

Country Legend Roy Clark Turns 80 and is Our Solid Gold Pick of the Week

Our birthday boy this week is Roy Clark, he turned 80 on Monday.  We had the opportunity to get to know Roy well when he hosted the nationally televised country variety show "Hee Haw" from 1962-1971, but continued in syndication for another 20 years.  He has been an influence in Country music and his telegenic presence proved he is an all around entertainer.

Warning from the City of Duluth: Use Caution Around the Aerial Life Bridge Due to Falling Ice and Snow


While training for Grandma's Half Marathon (which has been very difficult with the snow we've gotten so late in the Spring), we park in the Canal and run across the Aerial Lift Bridge and down the Point all the time.  It never occurred to me that there could be potential danger lurking above me, other than from the pigeons.  I'm still planning on using one of our City's icons, but we'll definitely be cautious.  Thanks to the City for watching out for us!
