Toys of the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s Exhibit At The MN History Center Extends Hours For Final Days

Remember these cute little bugs?  The Cootie Bug game was one of my favorites as a child, along with Parcheesi, Yahtzee and Life! (not a fan of Monopoly due to my crappy math ability, although it did teach me to make change).   But, everybody had their favorites.  "Toys" is a national traveling exhibit of toys making stop at the MN History Center and has been breaking attendance records.  They will take you back to your childhood and is something you're entire family will enjoy, but time is running out!

January is National Blood Donor Month, Make Donating Your New Years Resolution

I'm the first to admit it, I don't donate blood regularly.  Quit staring at me.  Okay, fine, I never donate blood, but I plan on changing that.  January is National Blood Donor Month and the American Red Cross is reporting the need for donors, so it sounds like the perfect time.

Minnesota Snowmobile Trails Open; Enthusiasts Can Check Trail Conditions Here

I use to be so scared of our snowmobile.  I would play in the snow at age 4 while my dad and sister would ride the Scorpion around the yard, running up on the porch shaking my head NO when they would stop and ask me if I wanted to ride.  Then, I got the guts to sit on it one day and dad took off.  My first ride on a snowmobile was a surprise, but honestly, you couldn't get me off the dang thing after that.

Check Out The Lighthouse Center For Vision Loss Store For Gift Ideas

I pass by the Lighthouse Center for Vision Loss, 4505 West Superior Street (also known as Duluth LIghthouse for the Blind) every time I head to our neighborhood grocery store.  When I was a Duluth Lion's Club Member I helped to raise funds for the organization and collected used glasses on a regular basis from St. Luke's.  While I was in a public restroom yesterday I saw a poster for the Lighthouse and their low vision store.  I had no idea they had one, THIS is fabulous!

Time Saver: Wrap A Gift In Ten Seconds [VIDEO]

Ken and I have always volunteered to wrap gifts at the Salvation Army gift wrap booth at the mall.  We volunteer, we didn't say we were good at it.  In fact, we pretty much have anxiety all day, wait for days before we're scheduled.  But, this video may just change the anxiety to anticipation!

Fresh Snowfall Always Brings Out The Worst In Northland Parking Habits

I HAD to blog this because I feel like I need to defend myself.  Honestly, a fresh snowfall certainly brings out the worst in our parking habits.  Proof is in the picture above.  We've all experienced it and wondered what people were thinking (or if they even were) when they parked!

Volunteer to Ring Bells for the Salvation Army to Earn Bulldogs and Huskies Tickets

While many people in the Northland have already donated their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army, there is still a very large need for people.

According to their press release, the Duluth Salvation Army has nearly 800 two-hour shifts available and if volunteers do not step forward, the kettle locations will sit empty.  Therefore, they have decided to sweeten the deal to get more volunteers.

Volunteer Fire Departments In The Northland Are Short On Volunteers

According to WDIO.com the rural fire departments in our area are experiencing a shortage of volunteers.  Actually, they have volunteers, but only a few can be really be counted on to show up when needed.  Then, additional volunteer departments need to be called in and that leaves their township without a crew.  What can be done to solve this growing problem?  Is it possible that volunteer fire departments will soon be a thing of the past?  Who would someone living in the rural areas call with a medical emergency or a fire?

Turkey Cooking Times, Temps And Tips For A Happy Thanksgiving!

It's my biggest fear for Thanksgiving:  Having people over for a dinner that I hand a hand in cooking and then getting calls later on from my guests who are now in the fetal position with food poisoning.  Luckily that has never happened to me, but I make sure I'm careful with food.

From the United States Department Of Agriculture, here are some very handy tips for cooking both fresh and frozen turkeys.  Have a fantastic Thanksgiving!
