This is a sleep deprived rant.  I just have to get it out.  It's Thursday Morning, and since Monday I've had 6 1/2 hours of sleep.  That's not good.  I'm starting to lose my sense of reality.  Here's why I can't sleep.

More Than Half Of Americans Support Gay Marriage

People's attitudes are changing. A new article says Obama may adopt legislation to make it recognized nationwide. A new Gallup Poll found that half of Americans believe same-sex couples should have the same right to marry as heterosexuals do. That's actually down from a year ago, but it was the second year that a majority of Americans supported same-sex marriage.

Great Gift Ideas For Mother’s Day

What to get mom for Mother's Day?  That's what question usually pops into my head this time of year.  My Mom's birthday is near mother's day as well, so I have to get one great gift or a couple of nice gifts.  In college, or in a tough economy, that's kinda hard to do.  Plus the gift shouldn't be how much you can spend, but how thoughtful you can be.  Here's 5 gifts I've gotten Mom for Mother's day through the years.

Drinks Your Kids Should Avoid

I brought Sam to his yearly check up and as we always do, the doctor and I talked about some things that are good for Sam now that he is growing and some things that I should now limit.

I found out Milk is good for you, but in moderation. Water is always the best and first choice. Sam likes to drink a lot of liquids like I do, so if you want to monitor your kids better, or you for that matter, here's some bad choices.

Financial Planning: Where Do You Spend Each Dollar? You’ll Be Shocked!

This is my actual wallet.  It has $1 dollar in it, and a bunch of receipts.  That's why today my wife and I took a big step into adulthood:  we met with a financial adviser.  Some day we would like to retire, and that's kind of what I thought this would all be about.  I was surprised to learn that it's more than saving money for retirement.  It's also about having more money today.  What?  Is this freaking magic or something?

Babies Make Such Priceless Faces When Trying New Foods!

This is my daughter Kylee, enjoying sweet potatoes.  I remember when she was enjoying peas for the first time and sneezed.   The whole family remembers (was wearing) that, including the family dog!

I was checking out one family's home video of the first time their child ate beans and started looking at others.  It made me think of this picture of Kylee, then I found this absolutely adorable video, so dang cute!!!

Duluth’s Housing Market 2011 [report]

My husband use to sell houses in the summer, so he has always been a "watcher" of the local housing market.  It is interesting to see how many houses were built in the city or  what the average market value of a home.  The City of Duluth has compiled an even more extensive list of interesting data.  Keep this in mind if you're in the market for a home now.

Labor Department Wants To Prevent Children From Working On Family Farm

My chores were much different than that of my friend Caroline Laveau, but she grew up on a huge dairy farm in Wrenshall, and I only had to dust and vacuum.  I enjoyed my time on the farm and think that it taught me a lot!  Responsibility and the meaning of the words, "hard work", because it wasn't always fun, or easy and "time to play" didn't come until AFTER chores were completed.  Personally, I think this is wrong and don't think that families with farms can make it without the family working together.  Do you agree?

What Is One Of The Biggest Playground Injury Risks For Toddlers? It Involves You!

It's always fun to bring your little ones to the playground with the swings, climbing and slides.  Well doctors are seeing more and broken legs on toddlers who visit playgrounds with adults.  It turns out your best intentions as a parent could lead to injury for your child.  This story explains why the thing you need to avoid joining your toddler on is the big-kid slide (although I would shy away from too many "under-dogs" too)!

A Mother’s Letter Tells TSA Horror Story For A 4-Yr Old Treated Like A Terrorist

I felt such a connection to this woman.  I only saw excerpts of this letter at first, but as a mother, I was eager to read on and see how the situation was handled.   I can't imagine having to watch your child be treated like this, show fear or cry and only be able to stand several feet away and not be able to hold her/him.  I  know I would have disobeyed the TSA officer  L O N G before this woman did.  Brace yourself for the compassion you're about to feel.
