Reading is Exciting When You Volunteer for the Rolling Readers Organization

Ken and I are often asked to read to kids in a classroom setting.  It's fun for us to visit with the kids and interestingly we sometimes end up reading books that was read to US when we were growing up.  But, we can only cover so many classrooms.  If you volunteer your reading talents with Rolling Readers so many more Northland children will benefit.  Consider giving a bit of your time to the kids, they'll light up your world!

Learn the Different Set Ups for Clay Pigeon Shooting [VIDEOS]

The Courage Center's "Shoot For Fun" is this Saturday and me and a few other guys will be going from work to participate.   I've never done formal trap club shooting.   I've shot a lot of pigeons, but it's always been on our hunting property.  When I saw the different terms like Wobble, Trap, 5 Stand, and Flurry, I had to look up what they were.  Here's some videos showing you the difference.

Duluth School Board to Decide On Open Lunch Period Option for High Schools; Here’s How They Should Vote [OPINION]

The Duluth School Board was supposed to vote this week on whether Duluth high schools should have an open or closed lunch period.  They ended up deciding to wait on this topic until next month at least.  Open lunch would allow students to leave the campus during lunch periods to get food, stop home, etc.  Having graduated from Duluth Central High School, who did have open lunch, my mind is made up on this topic.

Prevent A Breakdown With Your Boat Trailer, Check Your Wheel Bearings [VIDEO]

Ever wonder why sometimes you see a boat on a trailer on the side of the highway with no truck to be found?  Probably because the wheel bearing failed and it either lost a week or it has a wheel bent on the side.   It's a common mistake that many boaters make - not checking their wheel bearings.

Spring Has Sprung Gardening Kick-off with the UW-Extension Horticulture Tomorrow

With the warmer weather (and NO SNOW), we can now start thinking about those starter plants.  My friend Jackie has her tomatoes and strawberry plants already started in a cute little greenhouse on her deck.  Inside her home she has fresh herbs that will be replanted and moved outside eventually.  I am in awe of her gardening knowledge!  If you are seeking that same knowledge, these classes with the UW-Extension Horticulture is for you.

Duluth Fire Department Will Conduct a Mock Crash at PSS this Morning

I always say that "life experience" is such a great learning tool.  Even though it's tough, I've always let my daughter make her own choices, know that if she made a bad decision, she would learn from it.  When it comes to car accidents, I'm glad that the Duluth Fire Department has developed a way to simulate a crash.  With this mock crash, life experience is shown without having to actually live through the trauma.
