Billy Gilman has solidified his spot on The Voice — for now. The Team Adam contestant garnered a coveted Top 12 position on Monday evening (Nov. 7) during the first live round of Season 11.

With an impressive cover of Roy Orbison's classic "Crying," Gilman demonstrated exactly why he very well could win the reality singing competition. His chill-inducing vocals and a stage presence rivaled even the judges. Gilman began the song on a small stage in the middle of the audience alongside light piano accompaniment that never overpowered him. He then walked up to the big stage while Adam Levine looked on proudly.

Gilman began Orbison's "Crying" on the Live Playoffs with a whisper until he walked up to the main stage to belt the chorus much to the approval of fans in the audience. He competed against the remaining five members on Levine's team for a spot in the Top 12, and won one.

After the show, he tweeted:

Gilman is far from a newbie in the industry. The singer first found fame as a young boy with the release of his debut single, "One Voice," in 2000. He was 11 at the time and became the youngest country act to earn a Top 40 hit.
