Before And After Pictures Of AHA’s Lifestyle Change Award Winner: Addie Clyde

BEFORE - American Heart Association

Meet Addie Clyde.  She knew she needed to make a change in her life.  Little did she know, that change would lead to winning this year’s Lifestyle Change Award from the American Heart Association.  Congratulation’s Addie, FANTASTIC job!  Here’s Addie’s story and her “AFTER” picture.

Addie’s story:

It’s never too late to make a real, positive change in your life. At age 61, Addie Clyde had lost her father (age 73) and brother (age 57) to a heart attack. Her younger sister survived four heart attacks and another brother lost both his feet to diabetes. Addie also had Type2 diabetes, never exercised, ate on the run and weighed in at 212 pounds on a 5’2 frame. She did not have the energy she once had to run her in-home daycare center.

She was miserable and knew she needed to make a change. Addie saw an ad for a boot camp and took a chance. At first she could barely walk a ¼ of a mile but after sticking with the program, she was running up flights of steps and doing strength training. The weight started to come off and her energy level increased. Addie joined a gym and started an exercise log. She looked for more healthy ways to feed herself and her family.

A year later, she is down 49 pounds and has cut her cholesterol medicine down to a quarter of what she had been previously taking. She no longer needs medicine for diabetes. One of her grandchildren is getting married in October and she is looking forward to wearing a dress that has not fit for 40 years. (Coincidentally it is in style again!)

AFTER - American Heart Association

She still wants to lose a few more pounds, but more importantly, she is on a personal mission to inspire and encourage friends and family to follow in her footsteps.

The American Heart Association will recognize Addie Clyde as the 2011 Lifestyle Change Award Winner at the Northland Heart Walk on Saturday, September 24 at Bayfront Festival Park. She was nominated by her grandson, Parker. He will also be at the event.
