Go Green With the Duluth Streams Corps, Our Streams Need Our Help

I’ve lived in Duluth for four years now, and I’m constantly amazed at how special this place is. The view, the beaches, the music, the food – I could go on and on. For a city its size, Duluth has an incredible variety to offer its citizens. The things that astonish me the most, though, are the streams and wild places that flow right through the city. There are dozens of them – 42 to be exact – each with their own history, personality, and secluded charm.

New Movie Releases: ‘Captain America,’ ‘Friends With Benefits’ [VIDEOS]

This weekend, two new movie releases at our local Marcus Theatres will try to dethrone ‘Harry Potter’ as king of the box office – one about a patriotic super-hero, the other about two friends who think they can actually make casual sex work.

The first is ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’ In the film, Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers, a scrawny guy who volunteers for a top-secret scientific experiment that transforms his body and enables him to join the US Army in its crusade against the Nazis.

Father and Son Take Photos at the First and Last Space Shuttle Launch [PHOTO]

Connecticut Becomes First State to Mandate Paid Sick Time

In a move watched carefully by some 20 cities and states, Connecticut has become the first state in the nation to mandate paid sick days for workers.

The bill, signed by Governor Dannel Malloy earlier this month, covers only hourly service workers at companies with more than 50 employees and excludes manufacturers and some others.

Study Finds Webpages are Read By People in an F-Shaped Pattern

A new study by usability expert Jakob Nielsen reveals that when webpages are read, we read and scan the text in an F-shape.

Using eyetracking software, he found the first paragraph gets the most attention, making the top horizontal line of the F. The next paragraph only gets half the attention of the first, tracing the second shorter horizontal line of the F. And finally, we skim down the rest of the article vertically.
