The Marcus Corporation was founded by Ben Marcus in 1935 with the opening of a single movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin. This marked the start of what would become one of the nation’s leading entertainment and lodging companies. Today, The Marcus Corporation is a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol MCS. Ben’s son,Stephen H. Marcus, is chairman of the company, while Stephen’s son, Gregory S. Marcus, is president and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation.
The Marcus Corporation has two divisions, Marcus Theatres and Marcus Hotels and Resorts. Marcus Theatres currently owns or manages nearly 700 screens at locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska, and one family entertainment center in Wisconsin.
Marcus Theatres’ facilities are leaders in their markets, offering the latest amenities and technology in stadium seating, digital sound, innovative food and beverage concepts and 72-feet-wide UltraScreens®. The company serves moviegoers in major Midwest markets including Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin; the Twin Cities; greater Chicago; Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska; Fargo, North Dakota; Iowa City, Iowa and Columbus, Ohio.
The Marcus Corporation’s full-service lodging division, Marcus Hotels and Resorts, currently owns or manages nearly 20 hotels and resorts in nine states. With expertise in management, development and renovations, Marcus Hotels and Resorts has assembled a distinctive portfolio of properties including urban and suburban hotels, upscale resorts and historic properties. Some of these include the Pfister Hotel, Hilton Milwaukee City Center and InterContinental Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wis.; the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis.; the Hilton Madison at Monona Terrace in Madison, Wis.; the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, Okla.; the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Mo.; The Platinum Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.; and Resorts Suites in Scottsdale, Ariz.
