Cathy Kates

Hello, from a Northland girl born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth! I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings and life with you since 1996. It's like audio Facebook. You're the reason getting up at 3am is totally worth it! I love hot buttered movie theater popcorn, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing), and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. Kudos to my family, Homie, Kylee, and my Schnauzer, Bauer for always being by my side. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

Consider Making Mom Dinner With This Easy Mini-Lasagna Recipe

I love the taste of lasagna, but the fact that we’re currently training for the half marathon  has us watching what we eat to keep the weight down. When I found this recipe that is made in muffin tins with those little won ton wrappers instead of thick lasagna noodles I though I’d give it a try. They are fabulous and I made them for my sister and brother in law who immediately asked for the recipe and will be making it regularly. You want easy to make and easy to share? This is it!

Reminder To “Stamp Out Hunger” With The Postal Carriers Tomorrow

Did you get one of the plastic bags like the one in the picture with your mail this week?  It's for a very good reason and one you need to think about before you leave the house to float in a cold boat for the MN Fishing Opener, head to work or go shopping for a Mother's Day present.

The Art Of Cupping, What Is It? [VIDEO]

I stepped out of my comfort zone and allowed myself to be videoed while being cupped.  You may be familiar with the term but not understand what it means.  The art of cupping has been around for centuries but it had it's Olympic moment last year in Rio when the marks cupping leaves was seen on Michael Phelps, the decorated US Olympic swimmer.

Fidget Spinners? Fidget Toys Are Nothing New – Do You Remember These Finger Fidgets By Era? [VIDEO]

Ha, show this blog to your kids and they'll be saying the same thing we are about the latest trend of fidget spinners.  What the heck?  What's the point?  What do you get out of it?   I started thinking about the finger fidgets I've had throughout the years and came to the conclusion there is usually one per era, here's my cache of them, did you have these?

Friends Of The Children’s Memorial Park Now Accepting Memorial Tile Orders

People often say that parents should outlive their children, but that isn't always the case.  To help those parents cope with the loss of their child or children, there is a national/international network of memorial parks.  One such park is located on the Range and is taking orders for memorial tiles to be placed on a memorial wall.

How Are Shoes So Sacred They Have To Be Retrieved From A Backroom?

My sister and I were shopping at a mall in Wausau, WI when we started looking at shoes (imagine that) in one of the mall’s anchor stores.  We both found a few pairs that we wanted to try on, but there was only one girl working the shoe department, meaning getting shoes and working the register to check people out. I can appreciate that the store is trying to save money by not over staffing or that someone may have called in sick since it was a beautiful sunny day outside, but while waiting 30 minutes for our shoes to be retrieved, I had a lot of time to think.

Crayola’s New Blue Crayon Needs To Be Named, Got Any Ideas?

Crayola Crayons were a staple at our house while my daughter was growing up.  She's 23 now and I still have several boxes in the craft room waiting for when there's little ones in the house again.  I guess I never really paid attention to what the color names were until they decided to retire one, Dandelion which was yellow with a bit darker hue.  Now they have a replacement that needs to be named and my first idea was already submitted!

Kivi Brothers Trucking Has A Job Opening That Isn’t OTR

During the Solid Gold Saturday morning show I often get requests from my OTR drivers for CW McCall's Convoy, Red Sovine's Teddy Bear and Dave Dudley's Six Days On The Road.  I appreciate the requests and that you share a piece of your weekend with me. So, when I saw that Kivi Brothers Trucking had an opening I thought of you, but this job doesn't require travel.  Interested?
