Cathy Kates

I'm a Northland girl, born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings laughing with you for the past 20 years. It's like audio Facebook. I make new friends, but I keep up with old friends too. I set three alarms to get up at 3:10am to do my job, then nap in the afternoon! I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker (FYI: I am writing my bio, eating breakfast, holding three texting conversations and contemplating what I'll be having for lunch and what to make for dinner ALL right this second). I can't sit still. I even wear a head lamp at campfires so I can cross stitch at the same time. I love puppies, (especially my Schnauzer, Bauer), hot buttered movie theater popcorn, soup, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing in it) and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

I Dislike And Don’t Understand The New Descriptions Of Hazardous Weather

Has anyone else noticed that when we get notification of hazardous weather in the Northland they aren't using watches and warnings as much?  When I started in radio I used my voice to explain the difference between the two. Now they've morphed to other descriptions and I'm not comfortable with them.

The Hibbing Dylan Project On The Iron Range Is In Need Of Artists

If we are honest, some people are miffed at Bob Dylan for his lack of luster for the cities he was born and grew up in.  He was born at then, St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth now known as Essentia and grew up on the Iron Range in the town of Hibbing.  However, there are many that admire his music, are true fans and are thrilled that he recently won a Nobel Prize in Literature.  A group on the Range wants to highlight that accolade and is looking for help.

Plastic Ware Explosion! It Was Out Of Hand And Taking Over My Kitchen

Remember Tupperware? My mom’s kitchen was full of Tupperware and we would be invited to family, friends and friends of family Tupperware parties to buy more. We didn't have plastic ware, Glad Ware then and all Chinese food was brought home in the boxes with the little metal handle.  But, with all the new fangled plastic ware I have had an explosion of plastic containers in my kitchen. Can you relate? Place your bets to see if I can get it all to fit in the drawer?

They call her the "dress fairy".  I call her a woman with utmost compassion and true love for helping others.  Her name is Mary and thanks to her dedication and giving up half her basement for storage, high school aged girls currently enrolled in a school of the Northland that might not have a dress for the high school dance or prom can now show up with sparkling confidence.

Don’t Change The Kids Routine Just Because It’s Daylight Saving Time

You read the headline and said "oh yeah", didn't you.  Yup, this week-end is Daylight Saving time! If you are still confused, think of the season, it’s SPRING ahead an hour. So, yes, we lose an hour of sleep, but on the "bright" side we gain an hour of daylight.  Another thing to remember is to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.  Even if they are still good, change them. That way you know they’re fresh and ready to keep your family safe.
