Cathy Kates

I'm a Northland girl, born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings laughing with you for the past 20 years. It's like audio Facebook. I make new friends, but I keep up with old friends too. I set three alarms to get up at 3:10am to do my job, then nap in the afternoon! I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker (FYI: I am writing my bio, eating breakfast, holding three texting conversations and contemplating what I'll be having for lunch and what to make for dinner ALL right this second). I can't sit still. I even wear a head lamp at campfires so I can cross stitch at the same time. I love puppies, (especially my Schnauzer, Bauer), hot buttered movie theater popcorn, soup, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing in it) and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

Need Inspiration? Gearing Up For Grandma’s 2017 Features Olympian Jeff Galloway

Every Tuesday I call Jim Stukel from Tortoise & Hare Footwear.  He reminded me that Gearing Up For Grandma's is tomorrow.  The weather is suppose to be getting warmer and if you're registered for one of the races on Grandmas Marathon Weekend, training should start if it hasn't already.   However, if you're in need of inspiration or if you are looking for valuable running information then you'll want to attend the annual Gearing Up for Grandma’s pre-race seminar, Saturday, March 4.  It doesn't matter if you're a novice or a beginner, the event will hold something for everyone.

While driving on Belknap in Superior this past weekend I noticed the sign boasting homemade Root Beer at the A&W Restaurant.  They aren't kidding, it IS homemade.  I use to work at the A&W in Cloquet and we made our root beer too.  Don't believe me, here's proof.

Outback Steakhouses Close Across The Nation, Will Duluth’s Be Spared

Last week we learned that the company that owns JC Penney will be closing some of their stores and that honestly made me sick to my stomach.  I love shopping at JC Penney and it has been an anchor store at the Miller Hill Mall for so many years. While we're waiting to hear for sure what stores they'll be closing, another company has announced they'll be closing some of their locations, will our Outback Steakhouse on Haines Road be on the chopping block too?

Volunteer To Deliver Meals On Wheels And Make Lifelong Friendships

My aunt who lived in Albuquerque was the first person to introduce me to "meals on wheels".  While I was visiting her as a child I got to accompany her on her weeks delivery.  I remember how proud I was that she had so many friends.  She delivered in their community for years, in fact she was well into her 70's and still delivering.  The opportunity to deliver meals locally is available and I know from experience how fulfilling it is.

When Did Personal Travel Pillows Become So Trendy

The last time I flew was to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and that was when I purchased my first U-shaped travel pillow.  Last week while we were walking through the airport I noticed that almost everyone had a travel pillow.  It was either around their neck, tied to their carry on or like me had it stuffed in one of their suitcases.
