Cathy Kates

I'm a Northland girl, born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings laughing with you for the past 20 years. It's like audio Facebook. I make new friends, but I keep up with old friends too. I set three alarms to get up at 3:10am to do my job, then nap in the afternoon! I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker (FYI: I am writing my bio, eating breakfast, holding three texting conversations and contemplating what I'll be having for lunch and what to make for dinner ALL right this second). I can't sit still. I even wear a head lamp at campfires so I can cross stitch at the same time. I love puppies, (especially my Schnauzer, Bauer), hot buttered movie theater popcorn, soup, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing in it) and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

UMD Bulldog Banter With Assistant Coach Brett Larson [VIDEO]

I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to talk with Assistant Coach Brett Larson for the UMD Bulldog Men's Hockey Team every Thursday at 8:10 during the Bulldog Spotlight thanks to Aire Serv and the Dwight Swanstrom Company.  In previous Bulldog Banter video we've put Bulldog team members in the spotlight, but not for an ordinary interview because we wanted to learn more about their life off the ice.  The sixth video in our series gets personal with Coach Larson himself.

Harold’s Wild Game Feed In Carlton Is Always Wildly Delicious

I can't believe I actually look forward to Harold's Wild Game Feed at the Carlton VFW now!  I don't usually stray very far from the norm so I haven't been a fan of wild game feeds until now.   It's become a favorite because my husband and I get to share our eggrolls made with Buffalo meat to stay in the wild game theme.

Use Battery Operated Socks For Comfort And Warmth At the Lake Superior Ice Festival

Battery operated socks rock!  Honestly there is so much to do the entire weekend at the Lake Superior Ice Festival you'll want to pack extra batteries for your socks.  I'm ALWAYS cold, I even use an electric blanket in July, but I'm not willing to sit out on any of the frozen fun and memories waiting to be made at the Lake Superior Ice Festival so I'm pulling out the long johns, my thermal cuddle duds and battery operated socks.

Diabetes Prevention Program Offers Important Classes In Duluth, Superior And Proctor

One in three Americans has prediabetes and doesn't even know it.  Almost everyone knows someone that is dealing with diabetes at some level.  If you think you don't, chances are you do and are unaware that a friend or family member is dealing with it.  There are free classes being offered that will introduce a healthy lifestyle that may reverse the prediabetes diagnosis.  That's fantastic and so worth it considering the alternative.

When Is The New Lucky’s 13 Pub Opening In Duluth? [VIDEO]

When a new restaurant opens in the Twin Ports there is always a high level of excitement.  It didn't take long for another restaurant to open where Old Country Buffet had been.  It's called Lucky's 13 Pub and the menu is huge, just like the portions, according to General Manager, Ken Wilson.

Increased Use Of Counterfeit Bills Prompt Warning From Police, Here’s What To Look For

Ken and I had talked about the topic of counterfeit bills in the area recently.  It's easy to spot, IF you're looking for it, but easy to miss if you're just going about your business and moving forward through your day.  The Duluth Police Department says that there are more and more of the bills being detected in the area and that prompted them to issue a warning.

I Can’t Understand How Someone Could Vandalize Our Vietnam Veterans Memorial In Duluth

Here I am, on my soap box again.  The last time I was in disbelief that someone could be so cruel and disrespectful was when the then new downtown Duluth Transit Center was ransacked by an 18 year old  causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.  I'll ask again, what makes someone think it's ok to ruin something that doesn't belong to them?

Celebrate Georgie The Sloth’s Birthday At The Lake Superior Zoo

I'd call Georgie cute (cuz I'm a mammal lover) until I see her nails.  She's in some serious need of a mani/pedi!  Especially because she has to look her best for her birthday party that you are invited to attend!

Wisconsin Residents Are Eligible To Settlement Money Involving Dairy Prices

I did not fully understand how this would work since I don't keep my grocery receipts.  How do you prove that you purchased milk and/or dairy products while a resident of Wisconsin from the year 2003 until now?  Sounds goofy doesn't it, but worth the few minutes it takes to give your information since you may be entitled to some cash.  Oh, and they don't ask for receipts.
