Cathy Kates

Hi y'all, thanks for checking out my bio! I grew up in the country community of Wrenshall, attended church in Carlton and worked in Cloquet. I adore and respect my family. My husband and I laugh and run together (well, I jog). My daughter is in her second year of college and keeps me young and our dog Bauer is an overactive Schnauzer. I love shoes, Asian food, and trying new recipes. My dream (at the moment) is to be on the Big Bang Theory or the Ellen Show. I have been in broadcasting for 16 years and thank you for your friendship and waking up to laugh with Ken, me and the Breakfast Club. ~Peace, Love & Hugs

Fourth Of July 2014 Fireworks And Parades [Schedule]

On Independence Day some people think of BBQ'd hamburgers and hot dogs, watermelon and corn on the cob.  Most think of the fireworks displays and parades that bring the entire community out to the streets.  If you're curious where you and you family can enjoy these festivities here's a few of the local ones I ran across to share.

Most of us remember the flooding that happened in the Northland in 2012, but that doesn't mean that several of our friends and family weren't affected by flooding in the northern part of our county early this summer.  St. Louis County would like to assess the damage and is asking for your help.

In Less Than A Minute Peel A Whole Bag Of Potatoes For 4th Of July Potato Salad [VIDEO]

One of the reasons I gave up on making home made potato salad was dealing with the potatoes.  I eventually ran across a microwave recipe that made it much easier and uses baby reds with the skins on.  However, if you are making traditional potato salad and have a WHOLE bag of potatoes to peel.  Here's how you can do it in less than a minute.

Scam Alert: Wisconsin Lottery Urges Caution When Giving Personal Information

Honestly, I just don't have a criminal mind, or time to come up with how to scam people.  I don't know why, but I'm always shocked to learn of the different ways people can steal your money and identity.  You seriously need to keep your guard up at all times.  I always try to share scam information when it comes across my desk so you are aware.  This time it comes from the State of Wisconsin Lottery.  Beware, no matter what State you play in!

Duluth Fire Department Live Fire Training Exercise RE-SCHEDULED For Tomorrow In The Miller Hill Area

Yesterday's high winds caused a lot of problems across the Northland.  There was 7ft waves on Lake Superior which had cancelled some fishing charters.  There was wide spread power outages and I can't count how many garbage cans I saw tipped over or blown into the middle of the street.  It also caused the Duluth Fire Department to reschedule a Live Fire Training Exercise.

Why Is Cathy Kates Going Over The Edge For The Greater Downtown Council

Downtown Duluth holds such wonderful childhood memories for me.  My uncle Russell was a VP at North Shore Bank in the early 70's and I would visit him at his big desk.  From there we would walk to Oreck's, Glass Block and I absolutely loved going to Woolworth's.  That was an era before there was an Interstate 35, so traveling to downtown Duluth was just as fun as shopping.
