Back when I first saw the trailer for 'Arrival,' I knew we were in for something different.  The trailer was done perfectly, and it's a great glimpse of what you get in the movie.  You're constantly thinking, working out the problem, and at the same time trying to figure out the bigger picture.  It's one of the few movies that you walk out of the theater a changed person.  SPOILER FREE.

Amy Adams is magnificent.  So much of this movie is subtle expressions that tell a bigger story, and Amy does a great job conveying her emotion.  Jeremy Renner also does quite well, and they make a good team.  Forest Whitaker fills his military boots just fine in this role as well.

The movie doesn't waste much time getting to the big scene, "The Arrival."  I was worried that they would drag out the first contact for quite some time, but the movie isn't as much about the first contact as what is to follow.

I remember when I watched Interstellar for the first time and after seeing it things changed in my mind.  Time & space were no longer what we always knew.  Time could be stretched, space could be shifted.   Much like 'Interstellar,' 'Arrival' has a lot of the same feeling but with slightly less scientific jargon to follow.  Your sense of time and what we know can be shaken a bit after watching this movie.

The message the movie leaves you with is smart, calculated, and human.  It's definitely worth the two hours of your time.  You'll be spending more time thinking about it afterwards.
