While I was a lifeguard and taught Red Cross certified swimming lessons in the Wrenshall School pool, I was not a great swimmer in a lake.  Especially Lake Superior!  However, if that's your thing, here's a new challenge you may not know about.  The Apostle Island Relay Swim!

You can do this as a six person team or if you're a daring soul you can do it solo.  It's a 20 mile swim around beautiful Madeline Island.  Organizers will have designated docks along the course where you can tag team with your other swim team members.  Or, you have the option of having any number of team members in the escort boat for immediate swimmer exchanges. There is no requirement on the specific distance any of the swimmers must swim.  (sooooo, a block?)

There are 21 Apostle Islands of which Madeline Island is the largest.  I've visited Madeline Island during the Bayfield Apple Festival, taking the ferry over to play golf and drink bloody mary's on deck of local bars next to the shore of Lake Superior.  You can rent bikes and mopeds to explore the island.

This event is to benefit the Apostle Islands Area Community Fund, so what are you waiting for?  Clear your calendar for August 22 and start training!
