Another April Snow Storm Targeting the Duluth / Superior Area and Northland to Start Next Week

If you haven't had enough of the late-season snow, there is another round heading toward the Twin Ports and Northland for the end of the weekend.The National Weather Service is forecasting another major winter storm that will hit the region Sunday and into Monday. This storm has led to an issue of a winter storm warning for the entire Twin Ports region in effect from 1 pm Sunday to 7 am Monday.

As of the latest forecast, the immediate Twin Ports and portions of the Iron Range and North Shore could see 4-8 inches of snowfall, with the heaviest snow expected late Sunday afternoon and early Sunday evening. While there is a chance of mixed precipitation in those areas, there is a greater likelihood of mixed precipitation in Northwestern Wisconsin and East Central Minnesota, including areas as far north as Moose Lake.

Gusty east winds between 15 and 25 mph off Lake Superior will lead to blowing and drifting snow, and could lead to some lake enhancement, offering slightly higher amounts of snow along the North Shore and into the Twin Ports. At the peak of the storm, snow could fall at or above a rate of one inch per hour and travel will likely be very difficult due to slippery roads, low visibilities, and quickly accumulating snow.
