Sadly, almost everyone knows someone who has had or has cancer.  There are many types of cancer and the month of September is dedicated to raising awareness of Ovarian Cancer.  Not only is money raised, but they bring awareness in a very unique and interesting way that involves two of our iconic landmarks in the Northland and the color teal.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most deadly of women’s cancers even though it is a relatively unrecognized type of cancer. Approximately 15,000 women die each year in the USA from this disease.  It's important to know the symptoms:

  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Back pain
  • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
  • Frequency/urgency of urination
  • Any unusual bleeding

Our community has eye catching things planned that will utilize our iconic landmarks and many events that will help raise money for Charlene's Light, a foundation for Ovarian Cancer.  It's the 3rd Annual Light Duluth Teal!  On September 18 the Aerial Lift Bridge & Enger Tower will be lit in teal lighting.

On the 19th there will be a gala dinner at the DECC.  There will be an incredible silent auction in conjunction with the dinner.  This is where you’ll have a chance to bid on a 2016 Ryder Cup Golf Tournament Package! That's right, you could attend the famous Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chanhassen, MN next fall!  How cool is that? There will also be tickets to a Minnesota Twins ballgame, Minnesota Orchestra concert, and the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and a whole lot more.  Want to go?  It's easy to sign up on the website.  There is also information about sponsoring a golf hole in the memory of a loved one on the website.

Other events leading up to the lighting and gala dinner are:

Thursday, September 17th

Plan to have dinner at Applebee’s in Duluth on Thursday evening between 5-11pm, and 15% of sales will go to Charlene’s Light…A Foundation for Ovarian Cancer in celebration of LIGHT DULUTH TEAL! All proceeds will go towards raising ovarian cancer awareness, ovarian cancer research, and support for ovarian cancer patients and their families.

Friday, September 18th

The following evening head to Buffalo Wild Wings (Miller Trunk Hwy in Duluth).  They are joining forces with Charlene’s Light in the fight against ovarian cancer! They will donate 10% of sales from 5-10pm on the evening of September 18th in honor of the third annual LIGHT DULUTH TEAL.
