All kids these days want to do is stare at computer screens, video game screens, anything that's electronic.  Most of us parents try to minimize how much we let them stare at electronics, but it can be a tough battle.  And honestly, it's a lot easier to just get them out of your hair for a bit and let them play.  I ran across a blog I wanted to share with you that has a great idea on how to handle this situation.

Narrowback Slacker has a great blog on a new approach to this:  Unlimited screen time for the kids as long as they complete a list of things to do before hand.  Check out the blog, it's really good!

I posted The List on what has become the MOP Command Center (i.e., the kitchen cork board) and I told them, sure, you can use the computer, or watch tv, as much as you want, as long as you do ALL THESE THINGS first.

No compromises. No complaints. No Negotiation. Just do these things. And once those things were done, they could HAVE AS MUCH SCREEN TIME AS THEY WANT.

I think we are going to start doing this.  For a while, when our 7 year old would ask if he could play video games, I'd ask him what he did for the family or make him do a chore.  This may be the ticket to get him to start taking initiative to help out around the house.
