Even though we had a pretty cold and wet April, it only takes a short run of clear skies and warmer weather to dry out dead grass, which can ignite and burn rapidly.

The Minnesota DNR says that our recent run of nicer weather has raised the risk of wildfires across the region for the immediate future.  High winds and low humidity are also big factors in fire danger.

According to the DNR, 98 percent of wildfires in Minnesota are caused by people and most happen in spring. Of every five wildfires, one starts from a burning brush pile. Keep in mind that municipal compost sites are an alternative to dispose of leaves and brush.

There is a reason why burning restrictions are in place.  Click the link below to get the fire danger rating map and to learn all about burning restrictions across Minnesota.
