It was August 6th, 1945 when the world changed.  The "Little Boy" was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during World Ward II.  I'll share a personal story with you after the video you can see here.https://youtu.be/NF4LQaWJRDg

 

Shortly after the bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered, US forces arrived to aid the rebuild and stabilize the region.  One of the sailors that arrived to help with the clean up and aftermath was my great uncle, Earl Holmes.   He was a corpsman that was on the Ship the USS Haven that arrived at Nagasaki after the second bomb.  He helped treat our own American POW's that were released from the prisons.  Some of them were suffering from effects of the atomic blast.

My uncle Earl lived a long life, living into his 80's, but he was exposed to a lot of radiation and battled several serious illnesses in his life.   He was a cancer survivor and also underwent several heart surgeries.  He always figured it was the radiation that did it to him.
