We just announced this morning that Midland will be coming to town with Little Big Town along with Kacey Musgraves.  Midland already has a top 5 hit under their belt with "Drinkin' Problem," which quickly became one of my favorite songs of the year.  If you dig a little deeper into the new groups music, there is plenty of reasons to love them.

First, here's a little background on the group.  They come from Texas and they named themselves after a Dwight Yoakam song "Fair To Midland."  It's easy to see the Dwight Yoakam influence in their music, especially with the song "Make A Litte" (see below.)

Ladies, you'll like Midland too, because the lead singer is former actor and underwear model Mark Wystrach.  He had a role on the NBC Soap "Passions," and a few other appearances on Television.

The group is a neotraditional country band.  They do have the traditional sound that I believe is making a comeback in mainstream country.  As "bro country" continues to dominate, there is a growing number of country fans that crave the antidote that comes in the form of groups like Midland, Chris Stapleton, Jon Pardi, and others.

Let's get to the music and the songs you'll love.

    Make A Little

Make a little is straight up Dwight Yoakam reincarnated.  It's a dance hall song you can two step your way through.  It gets your toes tapping and feels good.  There's even a little bit of the famous Dwight yodel.

    Check Cashin' Country

This is a great acoustic performance of song that shows the struggle of making it in the music business.  You have the rare opportunity hear of appreciating a groups music before they take off and become superstars.  Songs of this caliber come from the real life experiences and struggles of life on the road early in their career.  This subject won't likely be repeated with the same honesty after the group makes it big.

    Fourteen Gears

Every traditional country group needs a good truck drivin' song.  They nailed it with this one.  Lots of great steel guitar in this one.

    This Old Heart

I can see this one being a song that can traverse into mainstream country much like "Drinking Problem" did.  This song is a hit waiting to happen.

    Drinkin' Problem

Here's the song that put them on the map.  It's the song that made people wonder, "What the hell is this old song doing on my radio?"  Nope, it's a fresh new song from a band with a traditional sound.  Love it, Midland!
