As I was running under the Aerial Lift Bridge and huffin' and puffin', I noticed that familiar smell of "lake".  Love that smell!  That got me thinking that there are certain nostalgic smells that remind me of Duluth, Minnesota.

WLSSD (Western Lake Superior Sanitary District)

While WLSSD isn't a good smell and evokes the question in the car "did you fart".  It IS a smell that many will encounter around 27th Avenue West (maybe further depending on the velocity and direction of the wind).

    Lake Superior/Park Point Beach

It isn't really the smell of dead fish, but there's a certain smell of a lake.  I love that smell, just smelling it is relaxing.  I chalk it up to the lake foliage, fish, sand and nature.  Whatever makes up the smell, it's prominent on the Lakewalk and on Park Point Beach.

    DTA In Downtown Duluth

Walk a block or two down Superior Street and you're sure to catch a whiff of DTA bus diesel.  Another smell that I don't mind (I know, I'm weird).  It's not as much as it use to be, thanks to our new more energy efficient buses and I imagine any city would have the smell of bus diesel.  I just think of Superior Street when I smell it.

    A & Dubs

I live close to A & Dubs and again, depending on which way the wind is blowing, I smell all the deliciousness. (I hear those onion rings calling my name).  I'm sure there are lots of people that live next to a restaurant that would call that smell nostalgic.  But, A & Dub's is nostalgic in itself and for fans, we only get to smell it during the summer months. It opened as an A & W in 1948, 30 years later the current owners took over and have been running it since then with the name change to A & Dub's.

    Coffee Roasting

The smell of coffee brewing is one of my favorites.  Although coffee beans roasting is much different.  Since I'm talking about the City of Duluth, I'll bring up the smell of roasting coffee at Alekef.  Please allow me to dabble into Superior, WI because one nostalgic smell on the other side of the Blatnik Bridge is coffee roasting at Arco for many, many years.
