I usually don't even try watching new TV shows anymore because inevitably they get cancelled before they get a chance to grow an audience.  Last night, I couldn't find the remote control, so I ended up watching "The Slap" on NBC.  I originally was mildly intereste I'm hooked.  Here's why.

Also, I should mention that I went back and watched the pilot episode on demand too.

Great Acting.

Seriously, check out the cast.  All stars here!

It's real.

This stuff really happens.  The first episode somehow captures every problem and point of conflict in a family.  The parenting debate is at the center, on how you raise your children.   A mid-life crisis, conflict with in-laws, borderline adultery, etc.

It will get you talking.

I think 99% of sane people agree that the kid needs more discipline.  Most will also agree it wasn't Harry's place to slap the unruly kid Yugo (or whatever his name is.)

But then from there, it brings up what would you do in that situation.  My wife and I shared stories when stuff like this has happened to us.

It's something different.

Seriously.  It's so nice to have a drama that isn't about detectives.  The issues that they tackle in the show are real, they are dirty, they are awkward, and it's fresh.  Give it a shot.
