Grandma’s Marathon weekend kicked off tonight with the William A. Irvin 5K ― the first of numerous races scheduled for the 37th annual event.

 
Matthew Grey, 25, won the 3.1-mile race in a time of 15 minutes and 25 seconds. Grey, of Minnetonka, Minn., held off 19-year-old Dominique Aulagnon by two seconds.
 
In the women’s division, Savanna Plombon, 20, of Frederick, Md., took the title in 17:36 – the third fastest in the event’s 20 years. Four-time champion Michelle Oman, 39, placed second in 18:18.
 
A record 1,998 registered for the event with an unofficial 1,653 finishing the race. For complete results, visit GrandmasMarathon.com.
 
National titles will be decided Saturday morning with the running of the USA Half Marathon Championships. Many of the country’s top half marathoners are here seeking a share of the $82,000 prize purse – with $12,000 going to the top male and female. The men start at 6:15 a.m., and the women follow 10 minutes later.
 
Also, the 23rd annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and 37th annual Grandma’s Marathon are tomorrow at 6:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., respectively. A record field of 7,835 is registered for the half marathon, while 7,338 are signed up for the full marathon.
